Responsible Growing

Renewable Fertile Soil

All of our plants have been started in an environmentally responsible seed mix designed on site at our little urban farm. While other growers still use peat moss (a non-renewable resource) in their seed mix, we use only coco fiber (a by-product of the coconut industry) in combination with other organic & renewable materials including sand, compost or worm castings, perlite or vermiculite and organic fertilizers. Coco fiber is a little more expensive, but we think it’s worth it.

Recycled pots

Whenever possible, we reuse pots that have been discarded or recycle newspaper with our paper pots, rather than sending more plastic to the dump.

Responsible seeds

Our seeds come mainly from local and/or organic sources that support small farmers, responsible growing, heirloom protection and species diversity. We sell only plants grown from open-pollinated seed. The few seed sources that we do not know for sure will have (OP?) in the seed description.
